On the "Stimulus"

“There is plenty to complain about for everyone, and perhaps that’s the sign of a good compromise. Regardless of party, we all cast our votes with one hand and crossed our fingers with the other.”
~ U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D)

"No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would be only too happy to let you make your decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be?"
- George Orwell, Animal Farm, Ch. 5

"No question now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."
- George Orwell, Animal Farm, Ch. 10

"I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever."
~Thomas Jefferson

Rachel, there is another (quote) that was first written by a historian whose name (I believe) was Tyler. It goes (paraphrased): "Republics only last until the people discover that they can vote themselves money from the treasury." Pretty sharp, that Tyler.

I keep wondering if it's wrong that it saddens me, the death of the republic. Nevertheless, it does sadden me. It was a beautiful thing while it lasted. The question remains, where in the world will people move for freedom? And if there's a place, when should we consider going there?

If his justice is coming then you have nothing to worry about. :)

Actually, there are many cases in the Bible of godly people experiencing God's judgment when they do something wrong, especially in the cases where they are part of a larger people (i.e. a nation) that continually ignores and turns away from God. To say that one of God's children doesn't experience His judgment would be like saying because you are your mother's son, she never corrected your behavior. What we are promised is that we will escape final condemnation and eternal exile from God. In this world, though we may have more peace in that knowledge, we still experience the same troubles other people do.

The stimulus thing is incredible. Look how much Obama and the Dems have "acoomplished" in less than a month.

Indeed. 300 MILLION dollars for environmentally friendly golf carts, for a start. Thank goodness! Now the rich folk can satisfy their enviro-guilt while they golf...but what happens to all my friends who lost their jobs making RVs? It's hard to live on hope and change.

Ryan said...

I wonder if you'll still be complaining if your friends get new jobs building those stupid golf carts?

Of course I will, Ryan, and believe it or not, so will those friends. We're capitalists. These aren't ivory-tower academics; they work for a living and always have. They understand that government handouts have to come from somewhere, and they also understand that it's impossible to borrow one's way out of debt. The majority of people don't want this bill; we don't want to sacrifice our children and our children's children for short-term handouts and the furtherance of an agenda, which is where most of this money is going anyway. It's becoming quite clear very quickly that the emperor has no clothes.

Actually it's been shown, repeatedly, even by FOX NEWS of all sources, that the majority (the average looks to be 55-45) are in favor of the stimulus and were since Day 1.

Just clarifying.

And if your friends are 'real capitalists' as you claim, shouldn't they be content to watch their companies fail and fire them as, obviously, the market has dictated that company should no longer exist?

Rachel said...

Yes, that's exactly what I believe. And I certainly believe it about banks that made bad loans to people who couldn't afford them. We would be better off by far if the government just stayed out of the markets and let them even out.

And point conceded on the majority overall...I must have been thinking about the majority of people who prefer to earn their money rather than have it handed to them, and who don't want the government taking what they've worked for to bail out people who already made stupid decisions about their own money.

I was into this relatively civilized discussion until you began making absolutely ludicrous, gross generalizations.

It's beneath you. You're smarter than that.

Meh...I'm just over it.
